An Incredible Read-Aloud event was recently held at the Standard Chartered head office premise for an audience of the bank’s employees and their children. During the session, HerStory Foundation fellows read the stories of Khona and Rokia Afzal Rahman two Supergirls of Bangladesh, separated by a thousand years, but connected by the same indomitable spirit. Khana, through her instructional rhymes on agricultural techniques, and Rokia Afzal Rahman, through entrepreneurship and social work, both have helped people live better lives.

The story telling session was followed by a panel discussion led by Bitopi Das Chowdhury, Country Head of Corporate Affairs, Brand and Marketing where audience got to hear inspiring tales from four more Supergirls: Aasha Mehreen Amin, Deputy Editor, The Daily Star; Shumana Sharmin, Feature Editor, Prothom Alo; Nishat Mazumder, Everest Summiter and Zareen Mahmud Hosein, Founder, Herstory; on their journeys as leaders in their respective fields and what it takes to get there.

HerStory Foundation debuted The Incredible Read-Aloud, at Dhaka Lit Fest in 2019, supported by Standard Chartered. Their books, Her Stories: Adventures of Supergirls by Amiya, Vol 1 and 2, features stories of women who have led the way for others and furthered the cause of women empowerment through their contributions in different fields.
