Corporate Open is a debate platform created by PEDs to address huge necessity for debate and discussions in corporate world nowadays in celebration of May Day i.e. International Workers’ Day. Through debate and discussions people can get to the root of a problem and find out the best solution, something that is extremely important while dealing with corporate problems and solution strategy. It is designed to raise awareness on important issues like Climate Change Open Market Economy, Governance etc. and to encourage positive discourse that progresses the cause and helps gain critical mass in pushing for policy changes in the long run.

Many years of scholarly research have demonstrated that the advantages that gather subsequently of taking part in civil argument or debate are various. Debating gives encounters that are helpful for groundbreaking, intellectual, and presentational aptitudes. Moreover, through civil argument, debaters procure one of a kind instructive advantages as they learn and clean aptitudes long ways past what can be learnt in some other setting. In any event, debating helps learners to see the energy of sending sane, contemplated contentions and convincing confirmation in real life. It empowers them to illustrate their stance through using expository persuasiveness. It imparts in debaters an awesome feeling of balance and certainty. It shows them the aptitudes of inquiring about, sorting out, and displaying data in a convincing manner. With all that in mind, Performance Enhancing Debates (PEDs) is set out in order to mechanize Bangladesh debating enthusiasm with the attempt to sharpen it at the same time and working to reach this platform of debate across Bangladesh making sure every other individual gets the opportunity to attain such skills.

The tournament, Corporate Open 2017, ran for 2 consecutive days in British Parliamentary format at the Gulshan Campus of Academia School. The Grand Finale and the Prize Giving Ceremony of the tournament took place at Spitfire Restaurant in Gulshan 2 followed by Grand dinner. The chief guest of the ceremony was Ahmed Ashfaqur Rahman, 2017 National President of JCI Bangladesh, while the specials guests were Hashmi Rafsanjani, Country Consultant, Google Bangladesh and Sakib Ahmed, 2017 National Director of JCI Bangladesh. The 2017 local president of JCI Dhaka West, Ziaul Haque was also present in the ceremony.

Several individuals from corporate houses, non-profit organizations and start-ups such as GP, Robi, Holcim, JCI, Wizkit, Exito Events, Mindscape Communications etc. participated in the prestigious competition with participants from Bangladesh Debating Council (Rishad Sharif & Dewan Badhan) clinched the championship trophy while GrameenPhone (Fardeen Ameen & Naziza Akhter) became runners-up. The other finalists were Exito Events (Tahsin Islam & Zobayer Ahmed) & Mindscape Communications (Nawazul Kabir & Adel Mostaque Ahmed).

According to the Founder of PEDs, Mehedi Hossain & CEO, Tamzid Azad, “From the little knowledge, we have on debating and the debating community of Bangladesh as we have seen it, it has never been just about winning trophies & giving our CVs a nice touch. It has always been about our individual and communal development through the practice of reason, acceptance and making people aware of the wonders words and ideas are capable of. Each one of us here has experienced and saw in others the transformation that takes place in someone who is exposed to this wonderful sport.”

As per the directors of PEDs, Abdullah Safi, Emarah Siddiqui and Anthony Rozario, they plan to continue this platform in near future with more participation from local corporations and MNCs in order to create a holistic development.

The supporting partner of this competition was JCI Dhaka West, who has always supported PEDs in all its endeavors and plans to continue to do so in the upcoming years as well. The venue partner of the tournament was Academia School while the Media partner was ICE Business Times.
