US Secretary Mike Pompeo vows for more cooperation with Bangladesh in the fight against COVID19

The US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo has vowed to strengthen the partnership between the United States and Bangladesh in the fight against COVID19. He also emphasised on the importance of strong cooperation between the two countries for long term economic development.

In a conversation with the Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Dr A. K. Abdul Momen, the 70th secretary of the US State Department expressed his delight at the strong bilateral relationship between the two nations and his desire to uncover opportunities to strengthen the U.S.-Bangladesh relationship.

Earlier in June, the US Ambassador to Bangladesh, Earl R Miller announced $173 million in new funding to support Bangladesh’s Covid-19 response efforts and the development and economic recovery plan in the aftermath of the pandemic. The Funding will provide cash-based transfers through USAID for food to thousands of urban poor living in low-income areas of Kalyanpur and Sattala Slum, and help improve agriculture supply chains between farmers and markets affected by the pandemic.
