Russia’s Honorary Consul Architect Mr. Ashiq Imran was awarded the prestigious medal by the Russian government. He was awarded the medal in recognition of his contribution to the development of bilateral relations between Russia and Bangladesh by setting up a memorial in the Laldighi area of Chittagong in honor of Yuri Redkin, a Soviet citizen killed in a mine-clearing operation at the port of Chittagong in 1973. Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Bangladesh Alexander Ignatov handed over the medal to Ashiq Imran. He thanked Mr. Ashiq Imran for his initiative and said the memorial would further strengthen the friendly relations between the two countries. He also thanked AJM Nasir Uddin, former mayor of Chittagong City Corporation, for his overall cooperation in the implementation of the memorial. Mr. Ashiq Imran said the friendly relations between Bangladesh and Russia were established on a strong historical basis and the establishment of the Redkin Memorial proves once again that Bangladesh never forgets its true friends.
