Apple has a major iPhone redesign planned for 2017. The iPhone 7 has only been on sale for a short time, but the rumor mill has been producing some enticing information about what we might expect from Apple’s next release. People are expecting a major overhaul for the iPhone 8, thus, the speculation has been that the company has been holding back some major updates and improvements for the upcoming iPhone 8 or ‘iPhone Edition’, which,  if the rumours are true, will be launched on the 10th anniversary of the first iPhone.

Here’s a summary of what to expect from the iPhone 8 or iPhone Edition:

  • iOS 11

  • 5.8in edge-to-edge screen

  • no bezels and no physical home button

  • 3D front-facing camera could replace Touch ID

  • Long-range wireless charging (may not be released until 2018)

  • Apple A11 processor

  • 64 or 256GB with 3GB RAM

  • Latest Intel LTE modem

  • Possible change in case material to glass or ceramic or just glass back

Having covered the main specs, here are some other rumours:

  • The main logic board will be in two pieces instead of the traditional one

  • Apple may move the SIM tray to the bottom edge

  • Quick charging will be supported when using a cable

  • New speaker design could make the phone the thinnest ever

  • It will use an OLED screen from Samsung

  • Facial recognition in addition to fingerprint scanner

  • Laser sensor for gesture recognition

What changes can we expect from the new iPhone?

Instead of the expected “iPhone 8” tag, the new phone could be called the “iPhone Edition”.
