Bending but not Breaking

An All Time High
“The steel industry has in the recent years experienced tremendous growth, primarily because of increased government spending in infrastructure projects. There has also been a significant rise in housing sector projects across the country. This trend is expected to remain for the coming 10 years at least.

Scrap prices in the international market have been inconsistent. We are heavy industry, with a huge amount of planned investment feeding existing and future business plans and operations. Sudden changes in raw material prices in the international markets hamper local rebar prices which is not healthy for any country. Shortage of utilities, such as gas, has to some extent held us back from reaching optimum production capacity.”

U.S.-China Strife Raising Costs
“These situations make markets volatile, the impact of which is rise in raw materials prices, which as a consequence pushes domestic steel prices upwards, reducing overall market demand and disturbs the flow of development within the country. We must act towards keeping market prices constant to ensure that the current trend in development is encouraged, and not held back.
A rise in graded rod prices is a consequence of increased raw material prices. All prominent graded steel manufacturers in the country are known to be ethically responsible and in no way is it in anybody’s intention to escalate market prices without a valid reason. The industry will keep on growing with increased public and private sector investments.”

Holding Ground
“Renowned steel manufacturing process certifier, CRM Group Belgium, identifies TEMPCORE as the most advanced process in the world for producing reinforced bar (Rebar). They are certifiers for giant steel manufacturers such as Tata Steel and Arcelor Mittal. Baizid Steel convincingly passed the TEMPCORE audit procedure for our signature product QST500+. We provide international quality steel products at local affordable prices which have high weldability and ductility, high yield strength with high elongation, high thermal stability, better corrosion resistance, better resistance of fatigue and is most suited for seismic zones as nearly 60% of Bangladesh falls in high seismic hazard category.

I would say we do not plan for an immediate expansion of production capacity, but rather we intend to cater to the countrywide audience utilizing our current production capacity of nearly 0.5 million tons. There is a growing market for Bangladeshi steel in neighboring regions, mainly in the seven sisters. We will eventually be exploring that territory once the market is large enough.”

The Green Way
“There is a place for everyone in the market. I am sure everyone is selling as much as they are producing. So in no way can we say that the market is monopolized. It is all about the production and distribution strengths of the players.

Our plants are grey on the outside, green on the inside. Steel production produces gaseous fumes which in large quantities are extremely harmful. Our steel plant in equipped with the state of the art air pollution control technology which filters the harmful gaseous emissions and releases only clean air into the atmosphere. We also ensure that every bit of water that we use is recycled and that there is no wastage.

I would like to briefly share our group Action for Steel, 2025. We are predicting a high level of steel growth. Under the action for steel agenda, we are rolling out two significant plans. The first is our renewed investments in production optimization and the second is in introducing value added services, taking sales from merely being a transaction, to an unbreakable bond of stakeholder relations. These will be actions we generate which will be unique to Baizid.”
