In order to fully develop our nation, we must eradicate those customs that are truly detrimental for the youth. This entails bringing significant attention to the stopping of child marriage. NGOs, stringent laws, and the government cannot handle this matter alone; as a nation, we must work to change the mindset of those who find these practices socially acceptable.

An award ceremony was held at the Canadian High Commission in Dhaka on the 29th of November. It was held to reward those administrators of the Bangladesh government, who have sought to make child marriage an act of the past.
Md Abdus Samad, the Divisional Commissioner of Khulna has taken several steps towards this initiative and his efforts have seen success with a drastic decrease in child marriage. However, he does not look to the percentages that have decreased, he would like to focus on being active in every sphere. Samad explained that they have opened a committee, which can receive instant news of anyone trying to commit the act. The message will instantly alert authorities and they will act to prevent it. He also sighted awareness of the negative effects of child marriage should be enforced vigorously.
Addressing the program the chief guest Professor Dr. GowherRizvi, International Relation Adviser to the Prime Minister. In his speech, he stated that the government would do everything in its power to change the notions regarding child marriage. He elaborated that young girls must not be seen as an economic burden on their families. If they are allowed a holistic childhood, they can also thrive.
Addressing the program the Canadian High commissioner in Bangladesh, Benoit Pierre Laramee, stated that these four awardees showcase the very best of what the public service can be. This is not been an easy task. Through their bravery, dedication, and perseverance, these officials are making sustainable change in their communities.
Among others, were the country representative was from UNICEF in Bangladesh, EdouardBeigbeder; Director, GID, CEP & IDP, BRAC National Coordinator, Ana Minaj; and Counselor and Deputy Director Operation Canadian High Commission in Bangladesh, Brian Alemekinders.
