It is a matter of reassuring our valued readers every time that we would continue to uphold Bangladesh’s promises and the people’s expectation to attain a prosperous country and ensure success of the citizens. Business and entrepreneurship are the key subjects of our endeavour to inform and update all the partners in our journey. The moment ICE Business Times completes four years of its publication, we reiterate that we are optimistic about our future.
In this anniversary issue, we have tried to highlight a number of critical issues, giving some interesting angles of analysis and of course rays of hope. We are often exhausted with talks of traffic congestion and negativities of Dhaka as capital city but sometimes miss the positive changes and potential for growth of business. Quite a number of structures in Dhaka city today, as we included a few in our photo story, may remind us the progress.
The cover story – Expectations Mismatch – is probably the testament to our commitment to showing challenges and even crisis as opportunities for the leaders of the country. It points to the gap between the quality of education and the requirements of the industries for hiring skilled manpower. In a country, which has been blessed with demographic dividend, it is surprising to see this, especially when there are graduates galore. So, we emphasise that something needs to be done — in the education sector and by companies — to correct the situation.
Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman, in his regular column ‘Creating Opportunities’, too, has pinpointed the issue of the gap between demand and supply — ‘Many educated youths are unemployed while companies are not getting the right people while recruiting’. He adds: ‘The society must come out of the colonial mindset to create Babus through certificate-driven education without building quality manpower or good citizens.’
In an exclusive interview, US Ambassador Dan W Mozena has spoken of all optimism and positive branding of Bangladesh, a country of deep strategic importance to America. About the need for building infrastructures including sea and land ports, roads and railroads, he said: ‘American companies would be natural choices for many of these projects.’
Our special story titled ‘No right to overcoming losses’ has focussed on the insurance sector which offers a lot of opportunities for growth and coverage of other businesses for sustainable growth. As rice is part and parcel of our food habit, we included an article on ‘Rice culture: the lifeline of many businesses with better trade prospects’. A report on challenges of mobile banking has also been added.
On the occasion of the anniversary, we congratulate our readers, clients and advertisers who have always given us support and inspiration to bring out the magazine with valuable information, data, analysis, features, articles, reports and tips from experts. We hope you will be with us in the future.
