ABS Cables Ltd., part of the ABS Group, is one of Bangladesh’s leading Optical Fiber Cable manufacturing companies. Focused on manufacturing excellence, technological advancement and customer satisfaction, ABS Cables continuously strives to meet and exceed global quality benchmarks and to provide Internet and Telecommunication cabling solutions for its customers.
In the past, Bangladesh used to rely heavily on low quality imported optical fiber cables. Importing such massive amounts of it meant our country was losing foreign reserves and it was heavily dependent on the international supply chain for an essential tool of development. However, locally manufactured optical fibers were virtually absent in the market as the production required advanced technical knowledge and support. Manufacturing optical fiber is a precise, highly technical, and specialized process, both single-mode and multi-mode fiber are composed of two concentric glass structures–the core, which carries the light signals, and the cladding, which traps the light in the core. Now that ABS Cables has undertaken this huge and risky project to manufacture Optical Fiber Cables, the government should protect them by prohibiting or discouraging import through imposing tax on it. ABS Cables is capable enough to fulfill the Optical Fiber Cable’s demand of the country. They are also creating employment opportunities and other small businesses are also being established because of their factory.

Preparedness in the face of a Pandemic

Since the lockdown caused a nationwide standstill, procuring raw materials became an impediment to economic activity. The country was dependent on online activities, for example Zoom meetings. They are working in the back end of internet communications. At ABS Cables, they took the bold step of acting with initiative and made arrangements to bring in raw materials by air. They prioritized their customers’ including the government’s satisfaction overlooking the profit of their business. So that their online work doesn’t get interrupted. Despite the challenges of a lockdown, ABS cables company imported raw materials to ensure quality. This kind of bold move is not regular in the market. It helped them immensely in two aspects – the manufacturing process went on keeping the team active in work and preventing them from succumbing to the panic of going out of business. Their work force distributed Optical Fiber Cables to remote ends of the country to run uninterrupted communication. At the same time, it enabled them and instilled in them the confidence that they could deliver products to the market on time.
Apart from that the foresightedness of ABS Cables precedes pandemics as the company always maintains a year worth of raw materials available in their stock. This also prevented the company from facing any scarcity of raw material in the lockdown period.

Perfecting the Manufacturing Process

The core strength of ABS Cables lies in its manufacturing process. It uses Fourth Generation German Technology Machineries for production, and its quality has been hailed as even better than the imported foreign products. The fact that sets ABS apart from its contemporaries is its dedication to maintain standard and quality. The company manufactures fiber cables under the aspect of reliability, productivity, process repeatability and hence, quality assurance is supported by a broad range of measuring and control technology. Every single variant of their cables are certified by Bangladesh Standards & Testing Institution (BSTI), ISO 9001:2015.

ABS Cables Ltd, has received the prestigious ISO 14001: 2015 and ISO 9001: 2015 Certificates from BSTI. It is an acknowledgement of the company’s continued effort towards quality and sustainability. ABS cables Ltd achieved BDS (Bangladesh Standard) on Optical Fiber Cables and this is the first time in Bangladesh that a company was approved by Bangladesh Standards & Testing Institution (BSTI).

ISO 14001: 2015 is the international standard that specifies requirements for an effective environmental management system (EMS). It provides a framework that an organization can follow all aspects regarding environmental performance requirements. ISO 9001:2015 specifies requirements for a quality management system when an organization needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customers’ satisfaction and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements. They are the primary suppliers of optical fiber cable for some of the most renowned ICT companies in Bangladesh.

Putting the Care in Connectivity

Across our World, hair-thin optical fiber carries vast quantities of information. Its ability to transmit data using pulses of light has opened the door for many world-changing innovations in medicine, manufacturing, and communications. However, the advantages of fiber optics go well beyond the communication or data transmittance sectors. The optical fiber cable has been used for the advancement in such diverse areas as Medicine, Mechanics, and Quantum Computing. ABS Cables’ Optical Fiber Cables are used in data transmittance sectors.
It has some distinct advantages over traditional copper wires. Fiber optic cables transmit data at a much higher speed than copper wires. It is possible because the speed of light is greater than the speed of electrons. As they are thinner, more fibers can be put into the same size cable as the traditional copper cable. It results in more phone lines, TV channels and internet lines per cable. Also, the right signals lose less energy as it is transmitted; therefore, low powered transmitters can be used instead of the high-voltage transmitters needed for copper wires. These qualities make optical fiber a cheaper and more effective option.

World Class Standard

Where other Optical Fiber Cables’ Black Jackets are made from re-processed wastes which cracks within 6 months, ABS imports their world class High-density polyethylene (HDPE) from a world renowned company of Borouge, U.A.E., which shines beautifully in the light and they use Japanese & Korean fiber. They even minimize their production capacity by 30% not to compromise with the quality of their Optical Fiber Cables. The cable company also has the latest 5th generation machineries.

Safeguarding Connectivity through Constant Innovation

The adaptation of fiber optic cables has been pivotal in digitization of the country. It is faster, cheaper and has more capacity to carry information required for the digital age. Rapid adaptation of optical fiber has played a crucial role in turning the dream of Digital Bangladesh into reality. ABS Cables is constantly keeping up with the latest international processes. ABS has set its sights to become the benchmark global manufacturing company for the fiber industry. They want to achieve this goal by providing world-class products which upholds the standard of quality and reliability of the company. The vision of ABS is continuous improvement through innovation, integrity, teamwork and creativity. The government should take the initiative to prohibit or discourage Optical Fiber Cable import by imposing tax, since ABS Cables is fulfilling the demand of the country.
