The earliest H. G. Wells’ novels brought with them their own blend of excitement, awe, as
well as apprehension. Many of those written wonders indeed materialized. When electricity
was first invented, it lit up the night skies and powered vehicles that allowed us to conquer
land, sea, sky and space. Indeed, human imagination and the thirst for knowledge were
sculpting the very dreams that once seemed elusive.
Over time, modern sci-fi novels, TV-Shows, movies and comics have all added more fuel to
possibilities and potential repercussions of mankind testing the technological frontier. Even
tech depicted in media of only a few decades ago (the Star Trek series for one) is found in the
smartphones of today.
Initially, all new technology makes us worry as they may have ethical, philosophical and
economic impacts on societies. This ‘force’ of tech has both a light and a dark side and there
are reasons why we should be scared of them.
