JCI Bangladesh
Junior Chamber International (JCI) is a non-profit organisation for young people aged 18 to 40, spanning 120 countries with more than 250,000 members worldwide. JCI Bangladesh, established in 1998, is the organisation’s Bangladeshi national chapter. It is the most prominent youth organisation fostering leadership and positive societal impact in the country. With more than 4,500 members across 48 local chapters, it empowers young people through leadership development programs, social initiatives, and events. Guided by principles of faith, brotherhood, economic justice, and service, JCI Bangladesh focuses on key areas like economic empowerment, youth development, mental health, inclusion, water conservation, and green initiatives.
JCI Organisational Structure
JCI’s structure is meticulously organised for effective leadership development across all its layers – Global, National, and Local. Each layer, starting from the global leadership team to local chapters, plays a unique role in empowering members.
Local chapters are led by local presidents who lead teams of 50 to 60 members. Their activities address all 17 SDGs through over 150 projects within JCI Bangladesh alone.
Local JCI chapters are governed by a National Board. The National Board’s tasks are multifaceted: ensuring local chapters meet their objectives, establishing policies for smooth operation, promoting JCI’s mission, and showcasing local initiatives on the global platform.
What makes JCI’s structure so effective is its discipline. From local to national to global levels, a strong chain of command ensures smooth operation and project execution. JCI Global outlines the organisation’s overall vision of tackling issues across the globe, while national oversight, such as the ones provided by JCI Bangladesh provides guidance and regulations for local chapters to have an impact at the grassroots level.
JCI Active Citizen Framework
Recognising the need for innovative solutions to global challenges, JCI Bangladesh equips its members with the skills and knowledge to become active changemakers. Through its ‘Active Citizen Framework’, JCI empowers members to design and implement impactful grassroots projects that address specific community needs. The framework operates as a cyclical process, beginning with an in-depth analysis of local needs conducted by JCI and its partner organisations. They then craft sustainable solutions, which are then implemented with meticulous execution, followed by rigorous monitoring and evaluation. This feedback loop ensures adjustments are made for maximum impact, continuing the cycle until desired objectives are achieved.
Fostering Leadership
JCI Bangladesh is building the country’s foremost young leader network. All new members go through an immersive process that cultivates accountability, integrity, and commitment. They meet people by organising and attending events and leading community projects. These initiatives give them real-world experience in teamwork, problem-solving and decision-making.
Board members are constantly along the way providing guidance and mentorship. They ensure that all team members follow decorum, and share their invaluable experience of management, communication, and leadership.
The focus is always on individual growth. JCI members firmly believe in the statement, “Change begins with me”. The motto emphasises personal responsibility, encourages self-reflection, and increases commitment to self-improvement.
JCI Events And Activities
JCI Bangladesh creates opportunities for leadership development, personal development and networking for its members through various events and activities. Noteworthy are JCI Smart Bangladesh Summit, aligned with the government’s Smart Bangladesh vision; JCI Academy, a 2-day incubation and boot camp for upcoming leaders; Ten Outstanding Young Professionals (TOYP); and the Women of Inspiration Award. JCI Bangladesh also takes part in global events such as JCI World Congress and Asia-Pacific Conference (ASPAC).
