Bangladeshi app makers get another opportunity to showcase their mettle
Ethics Advanced Technology Limited (EATL) offers a reliable and secure environment for mobile users to access applications, features at a minimum cost or free. Depending on the application, the services are available either for smart phone or java scripted mobile devices. The applications can be downloaded directly to a target device or downloaded on to personal computer (PC) through EATL apps store hosted in a dynamic web.
EATL Apps store is branded as ‘EATL Apps’ and overall aim is to contribute to development and business with engagement of brightest talents, professionals both locally and in global settings.
EATL has launched ever first time mobile apps store in Bangladesh and will contribute to economic development, imaging the country, attracting and supporting mobile users in practical life for utilisation of its benefits effectively. Launched in 17 November 2012, Dr. Nizam Uddin Ahmed, CEO of EATL presented a power point to explain the statistics of mobile users in Bangladesh, mission and vision of EATL Apps store, its importance & significance, means of contributions in development and business sector along with searching the innovation through EATL Apps competition.
They were also responsible for the first ever Bangladeshi app-making competition, where Dalvik Coders, a team consisting of the students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), won the first prize of Tk 5 lakh for their concept of developing a platform, CourseMate — to connect students, teachers and institutions of Bangladeshi universities. They later conducted six months long campaign, searching talents and building awareness on ICT opportunity and mobile apps store and ended with a grand finale. This kind of gigantic ICT exposure happened for the first time ever in the country.
It was hard to collect 50 desktops for a programming competition in the same venue 16 years ago, said Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Vice Chancellor of University of Asia Pacific. But the time has changed, he said, adding that people now use smart phones with stronger processors than the old desktops.
EATL officials provided jobs to all the top 10 finalists of the four-month contest of 188 teams. The concepts and the top 10 apps have been posted on the site of the store. A team of EATL Apps are now conducting research to develop the apps to an international level. The aim of the company is to develop all the innovative ideas into applications, which is expected to bring a revolution in the country’s ICT sector.
This year, they have teamed up with Prothom Alo, which aims to open the horizon of hopes to the young generation. It will create employment opportunities and finally innovative ideas will contribute to development of the socio-economic sectors. As part of a nine-month-long youth engagement programme, the top 3 teams will have to prove their competency at different levels of app development throughout the competition. They will be awarded Tk. 1 million, Tk. 5 lakh and Tk. 2 lakh respectively. Top 10 teams will be awarded smartphones along with job opportunities in EATL.
This year the contest has been organised to make it bigger than the past two contests. Newer sessions and preparations have been included to make the contest more interesting and meaningful. The contest will begin with campus activations and concept note submissions. More campus activations and awareness programmes will be conducted this year. The main part of the contest will begin with the submission of concept notes. The grand finale of this contest is scheduled to take place on March 28, 2015.
