Deshifarmer
An agri-tech platform founded in 2021 by Sumaiyah Mousinin and Syed Fahim, Deshifarmer connects farmers directly to consumers, reducing the wastage of food and promoting climate-smart agriculture. With support from TRANSFORM — an impact accelerator established through a joint initiative of Unilever, the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), and Ernst & Young (EY) — Deshifarmer aims to benefit a total of 3,000 farmers and 20,000 consumers. This platform provides farmers with real-time market information, helping them make informed decisions and consequently increase their revenue. Through Deshifarmer’s model, farmers promote sustainable agriculture practices and reduce adverse environmental effects that usually result from farming.
Deshifarmer routinely engages with farmers to promote climate-resilient agriculture practices, including crop diversification and soil conservation. The startup also provides training and capacity-building programs for farmers, enabling them to adapt to and combat the impact of climate change. The far-reaching effects of such an extensive modality of work ensure benefits for farmers, marginalised communities and the environment at large.
SOLshare
In Bangladesh, renewable energy makes up a mere 3% of the total energy production. Within Bangladesh’s renewable energy mix, solar energy makes up 39.5% of the total share and has been stated as the fastest-growing renewable energy sector in the country.
Founded in 2014-2015, SOLshare, a pioneering peer-to-peer solar energy trading platform, works to develop innovative solutions for energy distribution and provide affordable solar electricity to rural communities. The innovative technology by SOLshare’s tech team, based fully out of Dhaka, aims to transform the way energy is distributed in Bangladesh, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and promoting sustainable development. The startup’s platform enables households to buy and sell excess energy, promoting energy sharing and community engagement.
SOLshare’s efficient set of services, including advanced energy storage technologies and smart energy management systems, has facilitated the implementation of several successful projects in Bangladesh, providing clean energy to thousands of people. Its lucrative approach and commitment to sustainability have thus far allowed it to reduce 6500 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (Mt CO2e) and generate up to 9,500 MWh of clean energy.
Ecovia
A clean-tech startup at the forefront of compostable packaging, Ecovia is transforming clothing and fashion waste into an eco-revolution. With a patented recipe, Ecovia not only fights against plastic pollution but also reimagines clothing waste by substituting single-use plastics with practical, eco-friendly alternatives to protect the environment.
100% compostable polymer in Ecovia’s packaging materials is a step in the direction against soil contamination caused by harmful microplastics. It decomposes naturally in just 180 days, leaves no harmful residues and turns into nutrient-rich compost that fertilises the soil. Through this transformational technology, Ecovia significantly reduces its carbon footprint and promotes responsible consumption. Their innovative approach aligns with the country’s climate action goals and contributes positively to land health, enhancing the earth’s nutrient cycle and leading the way toward a sustainable future in packaging solutions.
