There is no denying that Bangladeshis are hospitable people. Nevertheless, due to political turmoil, underdeveloped infrastructure and its infamous traffic jams, there’s also no denying that it is a difficult place to live in, let alone visit. That, however, is the ‘glass half-empty’ view. If one were to look at the brighter side of things then it would be impossible to ignore the potential possibilities Bangladesh provides for business ventures.
The hospitality industry in Bangladesh now is bigger than ever before. What was once predominantly a public sector investment has now become immensely sought after by the private sector. Thanks to the shift, the emerging hospitality industry is booming with popular hotel franchises such as The Westin, Radisson Blu and J W Marriot mushrooming all over the city. Not only that, lesser known names such as Amari and Le Meridian have also joined in and are doing well. In fact, we even have our homebred brands like Six Seasons Hotel, Lake Shore Hotels and Apartments, and Platinum Suites.
Our Cover Story for this month looks at four successful hotels in Dhaka – Amari, The Westin, Radisson Blu and Six Seasons Hotel. Delving further, we also had an in-depth chat with the respective hoteliers and discussed the benefits and challenges of the hospitality industry. Moving on, we have a spine chilling report on how the effects of climate change is affecting the nation. Given the consequences it has on Bangladesh’s resources and in turn its economy, it is high time that we take action to protect ourselves. Moreover, our May issue offers more for you to peruse through such as useful information for those who are interested in the MM2H programme, Cityscape’s venture and news on the interesting start-up weDevs, among others.
A budding mega-city, Dhaka is a hotbed for business ventures. Seeing the potential, the hotel and hospitality industry has seized the opportunity to expand and flourish. As a result, Bangladesh is now home to multiple upscale hotels and resorts which regularly cater to not only foreigners, but also to countless locals.
