SOS Children’s Villages Bangladesh celebrates 70th Anniversary of SOS Children’s Villages International and 100 years Birth Anniversary of Founder Professor Hermann Gmeiner

Mr. Md. Shahriar Alam, MP, Hon’ble State Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh expressed his sincerest willingness to be with all the good works of SOS Bangladesh in his speech on 23 June in an event organized by SOS Bangladesh. “All the Government Shishu Paribar will be driven following the model of SOS Childrens Villages”-the work of SOS Bangladesh was recognized in the Third Five Year Plan of Bangladesh in this way. Honorable Minister mentioned to follow up the progress in the parliamentarian  committee meeting.

This year SOS Children’s Villages International has completed its 70 years’ (1949-2019) journey providing a safe and secure family environment for the children who have lost or at risk of losing parental care. This year also marks the 100th Birth Anniversary of Founder of SOS Children’s Villages International Professor Hermann Gmeiner. 

To celebrate these two significant events, SOS Children’s Villages Bangladesh has organized various programmes. As a part of that, the closing ceremony of “International SOS Children’s Village Day” has been organized on 23 June 2019 (Sunday) at Six Seasons Hotel, Gulshan-2, Dhaka.

On this occasion, SOS Bangladesh has recognized 10 young prominent individuals who have contributed extensively for the betterment of our society by giving SOS Bangladesh Community Champion Award 2019 and 10 integrated young people from SOS Children’s Villages Bangladesh were recognized through SOS Bangladesh Promising Youth Award 2019, who are doing remarkably well in their respective fields.

The Awardees of the SOS Bangladesh Community Champion Award 2019 included Afroza Parveen, Managing Director of Ujjwala Limited, Amzad Hussain, Director at FBCCI, Anjuman Parvin, Founder of Heaven Education Services, Faria Sabnam Tripti, renowned Media Personality, Iftekhairul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Wari Zone, DMP, Irfan Islam, National President of JCI Bangladesh, Mohammad Mohasin, Captain of the Bangladesh Wheelchair Cricket Team, Morshed Mishu, Founder of the Global Happiness Challenge, Nurun Nahar Begum, Gender Expert at Action Aid  and Shazzad Hussain Mukit, CEO of Fanush Private Ltd.

The Awardees of the SOS Bangladesh Promising Youth Award 2019 included Mohammad Jahangir Alam, Tahera Begum, Mst. Rahima Akter, Raqibul Islam, Mohammad Abul Kashem, Sheema Kormokar, Ashiqur Rahman, Laily Begum, Shoaib Alam, and Mahfuza Khanom

One SOS mother shared her experiences of being a mother of children who are not her biological children and yet the children means the world to her and one child shared her experience of being brought up with love, respect, and security under the care of SOS mother. The cultural performances of the children of SOS Bangladesh mesmerized every single soul present at the event and indicated that extracurricular activities are of crucial importance beside their education.

Mr. Md. Shahriar Alam, MP, Hon’ble State Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh was the Chief Guest of this closing ceremony.  Mr. K. M. Abdus Salam, Director General, NGO Affairs Bureau, Prime Minister’s Office, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was present as the Special Guest and Mr. Francois de Maricourt, CEO, HSBC Bangladesh graced the occasion as Guest of Honor.

National Director Mr. Ghulam Ahmed Ishaque and Deputy National Director Dr. Md. Enamul Haque of SOS Bangladesh highlighted the activities of SOS Bangladesh. Both of them congratulated and expressed their gratitude to all the valuable guests, SOS mothers, co-workers, friends & well-wishers, and relevant stakeholders.
