Global Chamber New York City in collaboration with Global Chamber Dhaka organized a virtual B2B industry meetup titled ‘’Globinar GC New York City and GC Dhaka Cross Metro Meetup: The RMG Industry’’ on 18 November 2021. This event created the opportunity to bring together companies from the RMG sector and its affiliated industries based in NYC, Dhaka and from all over the globe to facilitate business between them. The event which witnessed 60+ participants including entrepreneurs, business owners, investors, government representatives, as well as executives, involved directly or indirectly with RMG to exchange and share growth opportunities between them. The globinar also served as a premier interdisciplinary platform to present and discuss the latest innovations, trends, and concerns, as well as practical challenges and solutions in the domains of Ready-Made Garments Industry.
Bangladesh is now the third largest exporter of ready-made garments (RMG), with China remaining the largest exporter and Vietnam overtaking Bangladesh as the second largest according to the latest figures from the World Trade Statistical Review 2021 released by World Trade Organization (WTO). From the last ten years, the RMG sector has contributed to the national economy at a significant rate. About 76% of the total export revenue comes from the RMG sector. The RMG industry is the country’s largest export earner with a value of over $24.49bn of exports in the last financial year.

The featured companies from NYC included Jasmine Sandler – Founder and CEO JSMedia; Lokesh Parashar, President of Federation of Buying Agents, Director at Adkindia LLC. and Kurt Cavano – the CEO at Nimbly, a 3D knitting platform that matches supply with demand, turning products around in less than one hour. Representing the Dhaka metro, Maheer Mannan – Deputy Managing Director at Shangu Tex Limited, a second generation Bangladesh RMG entrepreneur and Imtiaz Ahmed from LIMRA Trade and Exhibition attended the meetup to share their expertise from their relevant sectors.
The Special Guest speaker hailing from India, Lokesh Parashar, added valuable insight on the need for the RMG industry to be compliant with sustainability and its impact on the environment.
The meetup was hosted by Maimun Mustafa, Executive Director, GC Dhaka and Susan Assadi, Executive Director, GC NYC. The moderators emphasized that Global Chamber promotes meaningful discussions on numerous industries all across the globe to facilitate business to become easier globally.
