Uncover the foundation of academic greatness at Haileybury Bhaluka as Simon O’Grady, Founding Headmaster, articulates the school’s educational philosophy and its role in producing exceptional students.
Please tell us about Haileybury Bhaluka and the motivation behind establishing the school.

The outstanding achievements of Haileybury College UK, over 162 years, make it one of the best schools globally. The school has enabled thousands of students to enter every field of endeavour, from the creative arts to world-class sports, to global academics, to military leaders, to Nobel Prize winners.

With progressive values shaping its culture and the best practices defining its teaching, we have world-class educators drawn to Bhaluka by school leaders with a record of strategic success on an international scale.
What is your philosophy as an educator?
Determined to change the educational landscape in Bangladesh, Haileybury Bhaluka is an outstanding school for its students and an amazing influence on the way education should be in Bangladesh. Driven by uncompromising standards and an iron resolve to make things happen, we have a school with foundations for a wonderful future. For a school that cannot wait to open, we are going to transform thousands of lives for years to come.
Philosophically, we believe that every one of our students is capable of high performance and it’s our duty to make this happen. We do so with the highest expectations, the best research-led teaching practices, and a shared belief in the value of hard work. We do what works best for our students in a caring educational setting.
Please elaborate on the statement, ‘Building Asia’s Finest Students, at Asia’s Finest Campus’.
Through our $15m Academic Excellence Scholarship scheme, we are attracting the best students in the country; a diverse social profile of students who share strong academic qualities. Set within a world-class campus, with amazing specialist facilities shaped by international designers, the context is there for an amazing educational experience.
A five-star boarding school, that has partnered with international organisations like the Boarding Schools Association, the Council of British International Schools, and The Safeguarding Alliance, we have a school that is uniquely safe, happy and successful. No other school in the region has been able to open as an outstanding institution for learning and achievement.
How will the 160-year Haileybury legacy help the students in Haileybury Bhaluka?
Haileybury College has a rich history that has helped shape so many successful futures. We will draw upon that legacy. We are part of an exclusive network of Haileybury schools, which gives us a strong professional support system comprised of the best educators. Our students will be principal beneficiaries of such networks, giving them international competitions and global opportunities that few schools in the region have so far achieved. Whilst history forms our past, progressive ideas shape our futures. We have a curriculum that builds future-ready skills – critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration – from educators who have been certified by Harvard University. We take great care in recruiting our teachers; we make it hard for them to join but even harder for them to leave.
What are some of the unique features of Haileybury Bhaluka that differentiate it from other schools in the country?
Whilst we have strong differentiators, we are here to share our virtues. We are poised to be the safest school in the country, and have been acknowledged as Centre for Safeguarding Excellence by the UK Safeguarding Alliance. We will also have the best teachers in the country, certified by Harvard University. Built on the principles of High Performance Learning, we are committed to teaching our students how to think and how to learn. Enveloped by a progressive culture, we are elite but not elitist.
